RSL Soldiers Kokoda > Key Details
Following the highly successful inaugural RSL Soldiers Kokoda 2011, join us as we lead battle casualties and relatives of soldiers killed in action in Afghanistan, as well as high profile identities from all sectors of the community, in a trek across the 96km historic Kokoda Trail in Papua New Guinea. You will join trekkers from all sectors of the community such as sport, television, politics and the arts on what promises to be a journey of a lifetime.
General Peter Cosgrove AC MC is an Adventure1000 Ambassador and, pending engagements, will join the trekkers at the 70th Anniversary service at Isurava Memorial on Saturday, 28 July 2012.
The trek is hosted by Adventure1000 (www.adventure1000.com.au), the premier Kokoda trekking company lead by former Australian Army Special Forces Officer, Brian Freeman.
RSL SOLDIERS KOKODA 2012 WILL:
- Raise awareness for Australian Defence Force personnel engaged in active service worldwide
- Allow the opportunity for families and friends of Australian Soldiers killed in Afghanistan to trek Kokoda in the honour of our Fallen Soldiers
- Assist the rehabilitation and well-being of Australian Soldiers wounded on active service in Afghanistan
- Offer the opportunity for the Australian public to demonstrate their support of our Australian Service Men and Women
- Commemorate the sacrifices and efforts of Service Personnel with a moving ceremony at the Isurava Memorial on 28 July 2012 which will mark the 70th anniversary of the first battle at Kokoda between B company 39th Btn and the Japanese forces on 28 July 1942
KEY DETAILS OF RSL SOLDIERS KOKODA 2012
- The program is 9 nights/10 days in total
- You’ll have 7 nights/8 days on the Kokoda Trail overnighting at villages/camp sites in tents or guest houses
- You’ll join other trekkers from all sectors of the community such as television, politics and the arts
- You’ll join Battle Casualties (Australian Soldiers Wounded in Afghanistan) who, despite a large range of injuries, are participating in this trek
- The trek will be lead by Adventure1000 Principal, Brian Freeman, with a team of experienced Adventure1000 Trek Leaders, Doctors and Remote Area Medics who will be supported by local guides and porters
- Adventure1000 has the single best safety and success record of any Kokoda Operator, irrespective
- Individual trek groups with highly experienced leaders and medical teams will be restricted to 20 participants per trek
- The cost of the trek includes a detailed and supervised pre-trek training program
- Adventure1000 is an exclusive ambassador for Mountain Designs, which offers participants a discount on equipment purchased for this adventure
- The adventure includes a visit to Bomana War Cemetery where approximately 4,000 Papua New Guinea and Australian WWII soldiers are buried
- The trek will head north from Ower’s Corner to Kokoda Village (covering 96km) and culminate in a commemorative service at the Isurava Memorial on 28 July 2012
- Your friends and family will be able to view the group’s progress on our website as we make our way across the Kokoda Trail
- Your adventure concludes with an Awards Dinner and celebrations on your final night in Port Moresby
